‘Big Sky’: John Carroll Lynch Is Back for Season 2

Wipe away those tears over Rick Legarski’s death. Today at the Television Critics Association’s 2021 summer tour, ABC revealed that John Carroll Lynch will be returning for Big Sky Season 2. And the network dropped the reveal in the best way possible.

The second Lynch’s corrupt cop appeared on screen, Rick Legarski became a fan favorite. Most of Season 1 revolved around the Montana Highway Patrol officer partnering with Ronald Pergman (Brian Geraghty) in their parade of deplorable crimes. Legarski was the brains of their sex trafficking operation; Ronald was the crazy. In the middle of the season Cassie (Kylie Bunbury) shot him in the face, an attack that forced him into a coma. But Legarski officially met his end in Episode 8 when his long-suffering wife Merrilee (Brooke Smith) took a hammer to his head. So how is he back now?

“Careful viewers did pay attention,” Big Sky showrunner and executive producer Elwood Reid said. “He does have a twin.”

Shortly after that ominous tease, Lynch himself jumped onto the Zoom call, joking that he may be violating his NDA. “I’m really excited to be back,” Lynch said.  “When you get beaten to death with a hammer, you likely think that’s the last time you get to hang out with the family… I just think it’s great that Big Sky is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe now, so we can use the multiverse.”

Thank god. Big Sky was starting to feel a bit sad without a Legarski.

More to come…
