A man allegedly murdered his girlfriend and her 11-year-old daughter in Missouri this week and vanished after the slayings — sparking a manhunt, according to police.
Boone County Deputies responded to a home on Lavender Court in Columbia around 11 p.m. Sunday after someone reported they hadn’t heard from Allison Abitz and her young daughter Jozee Abitz, authorities said in a statement.
Deputies found the mother and daughter dead in the home.
Authorities soon learned that JT McLean, 45, was Allison’s long-term boyfriend — and the last person known to be in contact with both victims at their home, according to police.
Boone County Prosecuting Attorney charged McLean with two-counts of first-degree murder and a warrant for his arrest was issued.
Bond was set at $1 million, cash only.
Two orders of protection have been taken out against McLean since 2017, and he is on probation for violating one of them, KMIZ reported.
His ex-wife — who went into hiding since she heard of the deaths — told the outlet over the phone that she is startled by what happened.
“I’m not surprised he responded in such a way, but at the same time I’m in shock,” said the woman, whose name was not used to protect her identity.
Her new husband, Jeff Armistead, told the outlet that the incident was “not out of [McLean’s] character.
“I’ve dealt with him for the entire relationship … now we’ve been in and out of court for the past four years,” he said. “Yeah, he’s threatened to stab me in the face before and threatened to break every finger I had.”
McLean, an over-the-road truck driver by trade, was last known to live in Fulton, Missouri.
He also has ties to Las Vegas, Nevada, Chicago and St. Peter, Minnesota, police said.
He is about 5-foot-9 and weighs around 210 pounds, with green eyes and brown hair.
He was last known to have grown his hair out, but has also shaved his head bald in the past.
