‘The View’ Down to Two Permanent Hosts Thanks to COVID

Just the two of us… We can make it if we try! The View was down to a mere two permanent hosts as they returned for their second day of filming in 2022, thanks once again to the Omicron variant surge of COVID. With moderator Whoopi Goldberg already out and Joy Behar subbing in at the helm, Sara Haines is the latest to fall to the illness. After coming in close contact with the disease, Haines is taking some time off from the show, leaving just Behar and Sunny Hostin as the sole permanent hosts left at the panel.

“Unfortunately Omicron is the hottest topic right now,” Behar began the show. “And Sara Haines just found out that she’s close contact. So even though she feels fine, she’s laying low today. As we told you yesterday, Whoopi is taking the week after she tested positive.”

Two guest hosts have came in as subs on the show, including Republican fill-in Ana Navarro and frequent alternate Yvette Nicole Brown. The entire show has reverted to isolated filming, as opposed to the in-studio approach that was used in the first half of Season 25.

“I can’t believe this is going on like this! Everybody’s getting it. I’m tired of the whole thing,” Behar said. “It’s like the Agatha Christie, ‘And then there were three!’ But today we have a fourth — please welcome Yvette Nicole Brown to the show.”

At the moment, The View is slated to return to the studio next week, but stay tuned for more updates on the show’s return to an in-person format. Goldberg is also set to return as moderator next week, though we don’t have an update on when Haines is set to return.

“After we sign off, Joy, we’re going to go get ourselves into a cocoon and go into protective status,” Navarro quipped.

“I mean, this almost feels worse than last year. I don’t know why!” Behar lamented. “I think it’s because everybody has it, or some kind of form of it. It’s not like last year, I didn’t know hardly anybody who had actual COVID. Now, it’s like, you turn around: that one’s got it, this one’s got it, this one’s in close — anyways.”

The View is already short-staffed thanks to Meghan McCain’s departure at the end of Season 24. The show has since been testing out guest conservative hosts throughout Season 25, although they haven’t found much success in finding a permanent replacement. Thanks to both COVID and the lack of a permanent conservative host, we’ll probably be stuck with two co-hosts and guests for a bit.

The View airs weekdays on ABC at 11/10c.
